Books I Plan On Reading Before The End of 2019

My TBR list is huge and I keep adding to it. Not buying books is an alien concept to me. Being between jobs, I’m careful with how I spend my money, yet the one thing I always treat myself to is one book a month. At least.

With all the unexpected stuff that ‘life’ was dishing up this year, my regular reading habit fell by the wayside. I’m endeavouring to get back on track – though I almost lost the will after a run of books I did not enjoy – but I’ve looked through my TBR pile and chosen ones I hope to finish by the end of this year.

In no order whatsoever, here they are.

‘Stardust’ by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Charles Vess.
This was a bonus birthday present from my boys. I read this years ago so know I will not be disappointed.

‘The Gift of Rain’ by Tan Twan Eng.
This was recommended by a couple of people I spoke to at this year’s Hyper Japan. It’s set in Malaysia and written by a Malaysian. Really looking forward to reading it.

‘Nights at the Circus’ by Angela Carter.
I need to read more Carter. I love her fairy tale collections but haven’t read her novels. One of my reading goals for 2020 is to read as much of her writing as I can.

These next four were ones I’d actually planned on reading last year!

‘The Bazaar of Bad Dreams’ by Stephen King.
Even though he’s one of my favourite go-to authors, I haven’t read all his novels. I much prefer his collection of short stories. Having said that, another of my reading goals for 2020 is to catch up with his backlist.

‘Guns of the Dawn’ by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
I’ve been wanting to read books by Tchaikovsky after reading an interview with him. But, as I’m not a big fan of long series, I wanted a stand-alone story. I picked this one up at ‘Forbidden Planet’ not only because of the description, but I really like the cover.

‘Hunted’ by Meagan Spooner.
A ‘Beauty and the Beast’ retelling, the description piqued my interest enough to want to read it. And the cover is gorgeous.

‘Thirteenth Child’ by Patricia C. Wrede.
The first in a three-book series, this caught my attention, not only because it’s by Patricia Wrede but it’s also an alternate history of westward expansion – magic in the Wild West! What’s not to like?
