Fantastic Friday - Blissful, Soothing Music

I discovered the music of Ludovico Einaudi about a year ago, I think. An Italian pianist and composer, he started his career as a classical composer before including other styles in his compositions, from pop and rock to folk music. I like his music; I find it soothing and meditative.

Yesterday, on Classic FM, I heard one of his popular pieces, ‘I Giorni’. Roughly translated as ‘the days’, it’s on his album of the same name and was inspired by his travels to Africa. I’ve only ever heard the piano version but the version that was played yesterday featured the violin as well as the piano.

And I was ‘introduced’ to the Canadian violinist, Angéle Dubeau. Not only is she one of the most prominent violin virtuosos of her generation, but her career has spanned 40 years! She also leads an all-female string ensemble, ‘La Pietá’, which she created in 1997. I hang my head in shame that I have only now heard of her.

This version of ‘I Giorni’ is on her album, ‘Portrait’. I’ve been listening to it continuously and I hope you enjoy this version as much I do.
